Sclerotherapy

Spider Vein and Varicose Vein Treatment

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive medical treatment used at Renaitre – A Williamson Cosmetic Center to help patients reduce the appearance of spider veins and varicose veins. For patients looking to reduce the appearance of unsightly veins and the side effects caused by them, sclerotherapy is a safe and effective option.

Common treatment areas for sclerotherapy include the upper and lower legs, ankles, and feet. Candidacy for sclerotherapy is determined during a one-on-one consultation with one of our specialists.

The treatment involves the injection of Asclera ( also known as polidocanol) into the veins using a fine needle. This solution irritates the lining of the blood vessel, causing it to collapse and the blood to clot. Blood flow is then redirected to unaffected veins. As time passes, the vessel turns into scar tissue and begins to fade.

Common side effects of sclerotherapy include minor cramping, stinging, or a burning sensation in the injected vein during the treatment. Following treatment, you may experience bruising, minor swelling, discomfort, or skin discoloration, all of which should subside within a few days of treatment.

There is little to no downtime following sclerotherapy, and patients are able to return to everyday activities immediately following the treatment. You may be advised to wear compression stockings 5-7 days following your treatment. Improvement in spider and varicose veins following treatment will typically be seen within 4-12 weeks of treatment.
